Accell has recently transferred titanium bicycle brand Van Nicholas to Velo-ce S.R.L and sold bicycle brand Nishiki to Kron, reflecting continued pressure on the group.
Turkish bicycle manufacturer Kron Bicycle announced that it has completed the acquisition of Nishiki from Accell Group, marking a change of ownership for this well-known Nordic bicycle brand. According to the source article, Accell, reportedly entering a second debt restructuring, has been divesting several subsidiaries this month to obtain cash or assets that can be quickly monetized.
Kron Bicycle said the acquisition is a strategic move to accelerate expansion in the European market. The company aims to use Nishiki's long-established brand recognition and localized dealer network in the Nordic market.
After the acquisition, Nishiki is expected to receive support from Kron in manufacturing, supply chain and product development while maintaining its "brand DNA, market positioning and Nordic regional character." Kron also plans to selectively expand Nishiki into other European markets. Founded in 2004, Kron currently has a dealer network across 81 provinces in Turkey.
1. Nishiki: A Brand With Nordic Market Roots
Nishiki's current strengths in the Nordic market are closely related to Accell Group's long-term regional strategy. The brand is known for city commuting, trekking and everyday performance bicycles.
Accell acquired Finnish bicycle parts distributor Raul Hellberg Oy in 2009 and thereby gained ownership of Nishiki, which had previously belonged to Raul Hellberg Oy. At the time, Accell said the move would expand its presence in Scandinavia and integrate its bicycle network.
Over more than a decade under Accell, Nishiki became deeply integrated into the group's Nordic brand strategy, gradually forming a product identity in Scandinavian and Nordic markets centered on functional design and durability.
Another Finnish brand under Accell, Tunturi, remains in the Accell portfolio.
2. Accell Group Remains Under Pressure
Accell's recent transfer of Van Nicholas to Italian cargo bicycle company Velo-ce S.R.L and sale of Nishiki to Kron show that the group continues to face financial pressure.
In its statement, Accell acknowledged the impact of weak winter sales and said it was evaluating all viable strategic options together with shareholders, lenders and advisers, while conducting constructive discussions with relevant parties.
Neither party disclosed the transaction amount for the sale of Nishiki to Kron. According to the source article, the transaction has been completed.
